About the Chateau
More than seven centuries of history
The history of Zbraslav is closely connected with the Bohemian kings, the Cistercian monastery of Aula Regia and centuries of architectural development.
The Cistercian monastery was founded at the end of the 13th century during the reign of King Wenceslaus II and became an important spiritual and cultural centre of the Bohemian lands. At the beginning of the 18th century, Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel was also involved in a major phase of the estate’s architectural development.
Following the dissolution of the monastery in 1785, the property underwent a number of changes in ownership and use. A significant chapter in its modern history began in 1910, when the Zbraslav estate was acquired by Cyril Barton Dobenin. An extensive restoration of the property followed between 1912 and 1925. After a period of state ownership, the Chateau was restituted to the Barton Dobenin family.
